This time on the Week In Geek: fan outrage at the Walking Dead finale, the Star Wars: Rogue One trailer and early Captain America: Civil War reviews!
What the F@*#?!
The Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead caused quite a bit of controversy on the Internets. SPOILERS ahead!
Well actually, that was the problem – there were no spoilers. As the above video shows, we know nothing!
The season, which had been building to the arrival of big bad Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan), ended without him doing anything big or bad. He talked about killing someone for ages, swung his bat at the camera and the season ended.
In response to the controversy, geeky talking head Chris Hardwick said: “It’s exceptional storytelling because you’re going to be talking about this for seven months.”
Will we though? Really? I’ve kind of accepted the disappointment already.
This week, the trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story dropped.
For anyone confused, Rogue One tells the story of the Bothan spies who stole the schematics of the Death Star. This, as we all know, lead to Luke Skywalker knowing which hole to shoot his missile at (Ed: Wahey!) in the original 1977 film.
Don’t believe me? Seems tenuous? Here’s proof!
Fan theories have already developed about Rogue One – for example, is actor Felicity Jones playing Rey’s mother? Some fans seem to think so.
Captain America: Civil Reviews
With Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice little more than the cremated remains of burning reviews, Captain America: Civil War approaches.
In a surprising move for a franchise film, Marvel have already screened it to critics, some of whom have given their early reactions:
Civil War is not a bad film at all. But it's not the great movie I'd hoped it would be. It's a good movie with many OK & a few great moments

You know how the villains aren't that great in the MCU? Yeah that.

The more I think about CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR the more I love it. Such a great film. And one of the best superhero movies.

CA:CW is fantastic. Flat out fantastic. Either my #2 or #3 favorite Marvel film so far. Better than BVS, not quite as good as Deadpool.

First things first: we finally have the perfect Spider-Man and the greatest Peter Parker.

Civil War and BvS tackle some of the same themes and have similar beats, yet Cap works because we know and care about these characters.

I'll also admit, after 1 viewing, I have some small issues with the film. I'm guessing they'll shrink after a 2nd viewing to unpack them tho

The review embargo is due to lift this week, so fuller reviews are imminent. From the looks of it, they’ll be very strong. Captain America: Civil War releases on April 29th in the UK – not long to wait!
Sausage Party, Anyone?
I’ll leave you with a little, somewhat overlooked gem of a trailer that debuted a few weeks ago now.
Will the resulting movie be any good? Who knows. But this trailer is a solid two minutes of laughs by some of the greatest nerdy comedians!
